Recently
Instagram has been on an update spree. Owned by Facebook, the image based
social network has been experimenting with a number of different algorithms,
and just a few days ago, the platforms announced some interesting features to
its Explore Feed.
One of the most prominent recent features
include the channel called ‘Videos you might like’ and it collects videos on a
particular theme from across the world, making a flawless video experience.
At the same
time, as you scroll down the Explore page and check out the auto playing
videos, you will also be able to access featured channels with specific videos.
The Explore Page Is Designed To Adjust To User Preferences
In a
company blog post Instagram explained that the features have been added to make
the entire experience even better. While there won’t be any fundamental changes
to the Explore section, the more you like, it gets better and adjusts to your
preferences, showing you more exciting things to enjoy. If you come across
something you don’t like, you can simply select the ‘see fewer posts like this’
button.
Available Only In The U.S.
All these
features are available in the latest version of Instagram (7.20), which is
available on both Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store. Currently, this
feature has only been introduced in the U.S. and will roll out soon around the
world.
Essence Of Snapchat’s Live Discover Feature
While it
would not be fair to call this new feature a copy of Snapchat’s Live Discover
feature, there certainly are some similarities. For instance, the Autoplay
feature was introduced by Snapchat earlier and since then has been integrated
in Facebook and Instagram.
This is not
the first time Facebook attempted something similar to Snapchat. Take the
example of the Messenger Code feature that allows you to start a
conversation by scanning the code on another person’s phone.
Instagram Has Its Bet On Video
Considering
the amount of updates Instagram has been getting this year, it is actually
quite prominent that the app is betting on video. Earlier in 2016, Instagram
introduced the ‘view counts’ that allow users to find out the number of views
their videos have been getting.
There was
also another update that lets you record 60 second videos. These are also the
very reasons why the apps video usage has gone up by as much as 40% in the past
few months.
While these
updates obviously mean good things for Instagram, at the same time, it raises a
number of different questions. Will there be ads in videos? Will you be able to
skip ads or watch them till the end? All these questions will soon be answered
when the latest features become mainstream.
Till then,
stay updated with the latest Instagram reviews and mobile applications news on our website.
